Dr. Ofer Zur, Renowned Psychologist and Founder of Zur Institute, Dies at 68, Leaving Behind a Legacy of Compassion and Innovation
Sebastopol, California – Dr. Ofer Zur, a highly respected psychologist, educator, and adventurer, tragically passed away on February 19, 2025, at the age of 68.
Dr. Zur was a leader in the field of psychotherapy, known for his innovative contributions to mental health, as well as his unwavering commitment to challenging conventional wisdom and advocating for social justice.
He was the founder of the Zur Institute, a renowned educational platform for mental health professionals.
Dr. Zur’s work focused on boundary-pushing topics in psychotherapy, including his controversial stance on dual relationships and his advocacy for teletherapy, which he championed early on in the mental health community.
In addition to his academic and clinical work, Dr. Zur was an avid adventurer, who lived life to the fullest by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, diving in the Red Sea, and motorcycling through the Himalayas. His zest for life and profound understanding of the human condition inspired countless individuals.
Survived by his wife, Jennifer, and their children Azzia, Eitan, and Ilan, Dr. Zur’s family asks that in his memory, donations be made to Amnesty International or any other cause aligned with his values.
